Water is God is a three-track electro-acoustic EP released by Hakeem Adam inspired by time spent by the Atlantic Ocean. This sound work features distinct rhythmic pulses and steady melodic movements, reciprocating the dynamism of water. 

The artist engages rhythm as vocabulary, as a way of reenacting and resituating place via memory. Each song is a meditation on the fluid properties of water, particularly, its ability to hold space via its own rhythmic cadence. Using synthesized and sampled sound, the composition describes the beaches and coastal drives in Accra employing similar convolving rhythms.  

The project advances the artist's ongoing research work on oral knowledge production and expression amongst Ghanaian ethnic groups. Water is God is an exposition of a focus on creative religious practices as oral communication between human and non-human actors, in this case, the ocean. Practices such as the pour of libation involve the convolution of sound as rhythm and memory as speech and bodily movements in conveying vivid descriptions of a relationship to the environment.

Water is God employs a similar compositional approach in architecting the artist’s experience of the Atlantic, invoking its memory through sequenced sound.
